What is it about that album that resonates so much with you?īobby “Blitz” Ellsworth: With regard to that, I look at it the beginning of understanding a second part of Overkill. Here’s how it went:ĭead Rhetoric: You have been name-dropping the From the Underground and Below album of late in interviews. Vapor cigarette in one hand, bushy moustache lining his face, there are few better chats than Ellsworth. Now bounding across the country on the Metal Alliance tour with Crowbar, Havok, Black Fast and Invidia, we were able to sit down with Bobby Blitz prior to the band’s September 11 show in Pittsburgh. It’s an assertive bout of honest-man-metal, propelled by the ever-animated vocals of Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth, a man of infinite wisdom and laughs, it seems. The gutter-thrash grit that helped defined the East Coast remains in full bloom, in particular, with this year’s sterling The Grinding Wheel. Overkill circa 2017 is much bigger than they were circa ’97. It helped set the course for the next 20 years of Overkill. ![]() With a thick, highly-modern production job in tow, the consistency and more importantly, the potency of the album was demonstrative of a band who refused to go down easily. Released on the long-defunct CMC International (a label, at the time, known for rescuing past-their-prime ’80s hard rock and metal bands), From the Underground and Below marked a new era of groove for the Jersey guys. What’s a stoic, hard-working, veteran band like Overkill to do? Simple: Put their heads down, plough forward and write an underrated gem in the form of From the Underground and Below. Thrash was now totally un-hip, its big bands pursuing less-than-heavy sounds while the log-jam that once enveloped the ’80s and early ’90s now gone. With a fresh set of new band members, HPD plans to return to the spotlight as soon as things are on the mend regarding to the pandemic.Circa 1997, Overkill was playing what amounts to “bowling alley” tours. The band has yet to release any information about exactly when the LP will be released, but they estimate sometime in early 2021. Instead of waiting around for the Earth to start spinning again, Half Past Dead went straight into the process of recording their first full-length album titled "Kiss The World Goodbye". However, that did not hinder the group in the slightest. The band has said they have never felt more confident in the future of Half Past Dead and cannot wait to take on the world!Īmid the outbreak of COVID-19, Half Past Dead had to prepare to postpone or cancel The Unbreakable Tour. On December 7th of 2019, Half Past Dead announced that they will be embarking on their “Unbreakable Tour” in the Summer of 2020. Itching to break out of their year-long hiatus and get back on the stage, the band had been secretly working on new material to prepare for a comeback album in 2021 and a new tour. By 2016, the band had recorded and released their debut EP which gained the attention of many notable rock artists such as Alice Cooper, Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein of the Misfits, and Wednesday 13.Īfter the Summer of 2019, HPD went through an evolution after experiencing many ups and downs in their personal lives.
